With the arrival of Plasma and LCD flat panel screens the TV Stand market has exploded with choice. The question for many consumers who are looking to purchase a stand for their new television is 'what size stand is right for my TV?" The best answer we can give is that with the glass table type TV stands there is more than one size that will fit your TV, for example if you have a 42inch screen Plasma TV , this will be approx the same width as a 105cm stand and many manufacturers will offer this as the correct size. However, many people prefer the TV screen to be wider than the TV Stand so as to follow the lines of the TV itself which will usually have its own base narrower than the screen. This looks fine and if it is your preference you should not be afraid of getting a 80cm or 90cm stand for your TV. Weight restrictions do not usually apply in this instance as a narrower TV stand will be stronger due to the same glass being used in both and the shorter span of the narrower stand. Having a narrower stand than the TV is a good option where space is an issue or if you prefer a more compact overall look. Also it is not a problem if you want the TV stand to be wider than the TV set itself, it is down to your own particular taste. When it comes to the cantilever or Bracket TV stands it is a different story, you must only fit a TV to a stand that is specifically designed to take a TV of that size and weight. If a cantilever stand states 'for upto 42inch' it would be ok to put a smaller TV set on it but not a bigger one. |
